Dissolution behavior of cellulose in ionic liquid by the internal mixer |

Ionic liquid has been regarded as the potential solvent for cellulose considering its excellent dissolubility. In this study, to obtain high concentration cellulose solutions and minimize degradation, cellulose was dissolved in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride using the internal mixer. Characterizations of cellulose solutions and regenerated celluloses were evaluated by UV/Vis, polarizing microscope, WAXD, and GPC. Processing dissolution by internal mixer could effectively reduce the dissolution time of cellulose (10 wt% polymer concentration, 10 min). After dissolution and regeneration, degree of polymerization was reduced about 10% while about 30% in beaker dissolution. The maximum cellulose concentration obtained by internal mixer was 25 wt%. |
