In the adhesive industry for automotive, the structural adhesive must maintain good adhesion and impact resistance. Epoxy resin used as a binding material for the structural adhesive has a problem like high brittleness resulting from high crosslink density. Toughening agent are usually used in order to improve toughness of the adhesive. In this study, core/shell nanoparticle and liquid rubber were added to the epoxy resin with different concentrations to confirm the toughening effect. The epoxy resins blended with the toughening agents were cured with dicyandiamide accelerated by modified urea type accelerator. Mechanical properties by UTM and dynamic mechanical analysis of neat as well as the blended epoxy resins were measured to observe the effect of the toughening agents, respectively. Also, the changes of fracture surface such as roughness and phase separation of epoxy resin influenced by the toughening agents after curing process were investigated by SEM. |
