Intercalation of hyperbranched polyglycidol and tri-block derivative within Na+-montmorillonite |

Hyperbranched macromolecules has attained increasing interest as it is a potential alternative for the perfectly branched dendrimers that have to be constructed in a usually tedious, stepwise approach. We have synthesized different molecular weight hyperbranched poly-glycidols (HBP), and have studied its intercalation in Na+-montmorillonite clay. HBP was polymerized using trimethylolpropane and PEG as the initiator by ring opening polymerization. These polymer were characterized by NMR, GPC and SLS. Intercalation of HBP into montmorillonite was carried out by sonication in water. The distance between the two layers was changed by different molecular weight HBP. The result of IR, TGA and X-ray diffraction studies support this investigation. |
