This study is to describe the removal of heavy metals in a simulated wastewater using DCA (deoxycholic acid) with a batch-type stirred cell. DCA is a biodegradable and anionic natural surfactants. The affinity of heavy metal ions to DCA was in the order of Pb > Cu > Cd > Mn. The MWCO of UF membrane and transmembrane pressure had a minimal effect on the removal of heavy metal ions whereas the DCA/metal molar ratio had a substantial influence. When the DCA/metal molar ratio was 3, the rejection efficiency of Cd, Pb, Cu, and Mn was 99.03%, 99.09%, 99.49%, and 76.70% respectively, and when the molar ratio was 4, it was 99.60%, 99.49%, 99.68%, and 90.07%, respectively. There was almost no change of the DCA rejection and the relative flux with the increase of transmembrane pressure in all case of UF membranes and DCA/metal molar ratios. |
