Wavelength dispersion is generally found in the LCD panel. This can be a big problem because of light leakage and screen distortion induced from phaseretardation. Retardation films that consist of polymers are indispensable for improving the color shift and viewing angle of LCDs. In this study, we synthesized reactive mesogens(RM), polymerizable liquid crystals, containing a photoisomerizable cinnamate moiety which can control the refractive index by cross-linking ratio. We have confirmed a change of optical retardation according to UV exposure conditions. By using the new reactive mesogen, we fabricated optical compensation filmswhich, at the same time, exhibit very low or negative wavelength dispersion by a subsequent photoisomerization technique. |
