Alginate/hyaluronate hydrogels for cartilage regeneration |

Injectable cell delivery using hydrogels has been very attractive in tissue engineering. Alginate and hyaluronate are widely used in biomedical applications because of their biocompatibility. To increase interactions with primary chondrocytes, alginate was modified with RGD peptide and hyaluronate as a key component of cartilage was added. We demonstrated that RGD-alginate/hyaluronate was useful to form cell-cross-linked gels with primary chondrocytes due to specific interactions between cells and polymers. These gels were injectable into animals and showed potential in cartilage regeneration. |
