Performance of Solution Processed Organic Photovoltaic Cells Using BDT and DPP based Small Molecular Donors |

The performance of solution processed bulk heterojunction organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) has been remarkably improved during the past two decades. Most of BHJ OPVs were produced using polymeric donor materials, since it’s easy to control the morphology of photoactive films. However, the difficulty in synthetic reproducibility and purification of polymeric donor were main drawback to overcom. In this study, we designed and synthesized small molecular donor materials containing alternatively linked benzodithiophene (BDT) and diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) units. Also, we studied on the effect of substituent at both terminal position of these small molecular donors with variation of alkyl chain length and electron donating power. Finally, 4.03% of power conversion efficiency can be obtained using a mixture of synthesized small molecular donor and PCBM as an active layer with 0.87 V of Voc, 9.44 mA/cm2 of Jsc, and 0.49 of fill factor. |
