Synthesis of silica nanoparticles with polyallylamine hydrochloride (PAH) as bio-mimetic catalyst under the ambient conditions |
초록 |
Conventional silica nanoparticle synthesis methods are carried out under very harsh conditions using chemical catalysts such as ammonium hydroxide. This method requires additional post-processing and can cause environmental problems. In order to solve these problems, the present study was conducted to synthesize silica nanoparticles at various pH conditions using PAH, which is a polymer functionalized with amine as a bio-inspired catalyst. The synthesis reaction proceeded in a two-phase system using two unmixed layers. The two layers is composed of PAH dissolved water phase and TEOS phase as silica precursor, respectively. The reaction proceeds as the hydrolyzed silica precursor is dissolved in the water at the interface by the PAH present in the water layer through very mild stirring condition. In acidic condition, it was confirmed that silica particles of about 20 nm have unstably aggregated morphology. However, under neutral conditions where the activity of PAH is increased, the silica particles are spherical in shape of about 50 nm. It was confirmed that when the pH was increased, the aggregation phenomenon again occurred. |
