Ozone pollution, mainly formed from exhaust gas of motor vehicles in the presence of sunlight, is a major health issue in many urban areas. Here, single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) aerogels are used for the detection of sub-ppm level ozone pollution, taking advantages of their high surface area. The aerogels were fabricated from semiconducting enriched nanotubes that exhibit chemical gating effect by adsorbed gas molecules. Also, selective destruction of residual metallic nanotube network was carried out by applying direct current (DC) through the nanotube aerogels, confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. The electrical breakdown of the residual metallic SWCNT network improved sensitivity of the devices. The prepared SWCNT aerogel based gas sensors showed high sensitivity, fast response, and reasonable recovery performance to ozone gas even at room temperature. |
