제목 Efficient biobutanol production in microbial electrolysis cell with carbon nanotubes for enhancing electron transfer from biocathode
초록 Butanol biosynthesis through aldehyde/alcohol dehydrogenase is usually limited by NADH availability, resulting in low butanol titer, yield, and productivity. The modulation of electron transfer may influence final product distributions in the microbial fermentation process. To alleviate this limitation and improve butanol production by Clostridium beijerinckii NCIMB 8052, the NADH availability was increased by biocathode with electron carriers including carbon nanotubes. Bio-electrochemical reactor was made of H-type with a dual-chamber and designed for the cultivation of anaerobic bacterium. C. beijerinckii was inoculated in a cathode compartment with carbon nanotubes at an applied potential of -800 mV vs. Ag/AgCl. Butanol productivity increased more than 11% in the microbial electrolysis cell with carbon nanotubes. It showed that using CNTs as microbial carrier can be expected to have more electron supplements by a biocathode.
