The morphological structures in the thin films of strong segregated block copolymer are theoretically examined for two cases of films: the film confined between two plates and the unconfined film where one surface is, for example, air (or solvent vapor). Using the strong segregation theory with an approach of kink-path ansatz, we construct phase maps as a function of the composition of block copolymer (f), the conformational asymmetry (ε), surface tensions (γi), line tension (τ), and the film thickness relative to the bulk period (d). We focus particularly on the orientation of mesophase of cylinder-forming block copolymer, seeking the optimal condition for the cylinder mesophases oriented perpendicular to the surface. Furthermore, the condition for wetting/ dewetting of unconfined block copolymer films is theoretically predicted. |
