Self-assembly of block copolymers has been widely investigated as a way of creating functional materials. For example, various photonic band gap (PBG) materials, periodic dielectric structures where the propagation of a certain frequency range of light is forbidden, can be spontaneously assembled from block copolymers. We recently demonstrated that 1D photonic gels assembled from PS-b-P2VP block copolymers are effective for achieving broad tenability against chemical or electrical stimuli. Herein we report our efforts on formation of 2D and 3D photonic gel arrays by controlled dewetting method. Regularly ordered line and dot patterns of PS-b-P2VP in micro- or nanometer scale have been created when drying process was carefully controlled. The optical properties of the resulting 2D and 3D photonic gels have been characterized |
