Glucose-sensitive liposomes were prepared by combining hydrophobically modified glucose oxidase and pH-sensitive liposomes. When the liposome was exposed to a high glucose concentration, the liposomal suspension became acidic since the glucose oxidase produced gluconic acid. Accordingly, liposomes released their contents at a high glucose concentration. In this study, two types of liposome were designed. The first one was prepared by incorporating hydrophobically modified glucose oxidase into the membrane of pH-sensitive liposome composed of DOPE and CHEM. The second one was prepared by incorporating hydrophobically modified glucose oxidase into the membrane of pH-sensitive liposome bearing an acidic copolymer. Our liposomes might be used as an insulin delivery carrier. |
