Effect of Allylamine Plasma Treatment on Mechanical Properties of VGCF/Ep |

Vapor grown carbon fibers (VGCF) were plasma treated to enhance the surface energy and to improve the bonding with the polymer matrix. This has been treated by plasma using allyamine with various time: 20, 40 and 60 minutes. The effect of allylamine plasma treatment(AAPT) on mechanical properties of VGCF/epoxy was discussed in this work. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of allyamine plasma treated VGCF40 (40 minutes treatment)/epoxy nanocomposites showed higher value than that of raw VGCF. The mechanical properties were increased with allyamine plasma treatment, due to better adhesion at VGCF/epoxy interface. The modification of carbon nanofibers surface was observed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). SEM micrographs showed an excellent dispersion of VGCF in epoxy matrix by ultrasonic method. |
