When very stable micelles are desired, the choice of the chemical structure and length of the block forming the polymer is a delicate process. Through the choice of the appropriate parameters, such as the glass transition temperature Tg of the polymer, it is possible to design micellar systems with enhanced stability. For this purpose, the poly(isoprene-block-2-vinylpyridine) (PI-P2VP) diblock copolymer was selected and the soft hydrophobic PI-block has a Tg of -70ºC. This ‘softness’ of hydrophobic block allows the block copolymer to be dissolved in aqueous media at room temperature and the present morphologies are in thermodynamic equilibrium. By DLS, AFM and TEM there micellization behavior in a different selective solvent was also systematically investigated. Special attention has been paid to the effect of the ‘softness’ on the formation of structures and morphologies of micelles. |
