Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising tumor treatment modality and can convert oxygen into reactive oxygen species (ROS) by using photosensitizer (PS) under laser irradiation to suppress tumor growth. ROS can cause cancer cell apoptosis with minimal damage to the healthy tissue. However, the clinical application of PSs is still restricted because of the low singlet oxygen yield or insolubility. In this study, we prepared polymer nanoparticles showing improved solubility and targeting ability by coating hyaluronic acid in pheophorbide a-loaded poly(L-lactide–co-glycolide)–poly(ethylene glycol) micelle to solve the clinical drawbacks. In addition, HPV-16 E7 peptide was used as targeting ligand for cervical cancer therapy. Moreover, cold atmospheric plasma was also applied to the cancer therapy to improve therapeutic efficacy of polymer nanoparticles prepared. Based on these results, pheophorbide a-loaded polymer nanoparticles may be a promising PS for treatment of cervical cancer. |
