Polyurethanes (PUs) are an extremely versatile class of polymers which are used in coatings, elastomers, foams and adhesives. In this study, fluorinated POSS (F-POSS), which was synthesized by the Michael addition reaction of aminoethylaminopropylisobutyl-POSS with tridecafluorooctyl acrylate, was incorporated into crosslinked PU based on polytetramethylene glycol (PTMG) and polyisocyanate. And, the PU/F-POSS nanocomposite films were characterized by contact angle measurement, tensile test, dynamic mechanical analysis and TGA. The PU/F-POSS nanocomposites displayed enhanced surface hydrophobicity, showing an increase in water contact angle from 90o for a neat PU to 105o for the PU/F-POSS with 5 wt% F-POSS. The rise surface hydrophobicity is likely to be due to migration of the hydrophobic F-POSS to the surface of the nanocomposite. |
