Acid catalyzed HMF products are difficult to separate and purify. In this study, we propose a HMF synthesis method via a liquid-liquid phase in a microreactor. Microreactors are more reactive than batches because of their good thermal conductivities per surface area. Because the experiment is carried out in small quantities, the experimental condition control is easy and safe. We have built a recycle system that can keep the catalyst in the water phase and continue to use it. This system allows continuous HMF synthesis because fructose is injected through the syringe pump. We conducted experiments to improve selectivity to obtain high HMF yield. As a result, we can reuse the catalyst in the recycle system and obtain an HMF yield of 80%. |
