Kinetics of Solvent Exchange from Ethanol to Near-Critical Carbon Dioxide in Silica Gel |

The problem of the alteration of the interstitial gel fluid composition is discussed. In the low-temperature silica aerogel production the silica alkogel precursor is practically unresponsive to the exchange of primary alcohol into liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide but because of a subtle and complicated gel solid network the exchange process is controlled by molecular diffusion. It was shown that in the carefully designed experiment, it was possible to identify the value of diffusion coefficient of this process. The diffusion coefficient obtained is dependent on the settings of temperature and pressure of solvent exchange process and the conditions of gel preparation.
