Numerous surface modification strategies have been applied to promote biological activation, such as altering surface roughness using oxidation, hydroxyapatite(HAp) coatings for implantation. Spin coated HAp on titanium/titanium alloy surface has been applied because of its cost effectiveness, good control of coating thickness and chemical composition. However, titanium implants coated with hydroxyapatite require high interfacial adherence between HAp and Ti substrate to avoid implant failure. To improve the adhesive properties, we developed polyelectrolyte thin film coatings comprised of chitosan and alginic acid on a Ti substrate by using layer-by-layer. We fabricated the hybrid HAp/polymer coating on Ti foils and charaterized them by SEM, XPS and AFM to define their morphological properties. The surface wetting and osteoblast cell culture experiments were also performed. |
