The emerging trend in designing advanced hydrogels is to create bioactive matrix stimulating the native extracellular matrix by physicochemical and biological stimuli. Among these factors, hyperoxia (over 21% pO2) have been demonstrated to facilitate wound healing. While various oxygen (O2)-delivering materials have been developed using peroxide materials, it still challenging to overcome the cytotoxicity of hydrogen peroxide generated during O2 generation. Herein, we propose a catalase-immobilized syringe (Oxyringe) as a new type of O2-generating platform to create O2-releasing hydrogels. The hydrogels prepared by Oxyringes release hyperoxic O2 up to 47.9% pO2 in vivo. Interestingly, O2-releasing hydrogels facilitate the initial macrophage recruitment, cell proliferation, and neovascularization in vivo. In sum, our Oxyringe has great potential as advanced O2-supplying tools for tissue regenerative medicine and other applications. |
