A study in improving of tin oxide-barium titanate-carbon (SnO2-BaTiO3-C) composite as an anode for lithium-ion batteries |

In order to increase a specific capacity of Li-ion anode, we used tin oxide as an anode which has relatively higher specific capacity (782 mAh/g) than graphite. Tin oxide-barium titanate-carbon composite was synthesized by barium titanate coating process on the surface of tin oxide following carbonization at the nitrogen atmosphere to reduce the irreversible loss of active masses due to the mechanical pressures occurred from high volumetric change of tin oxide during charge/discharge process. The mechanical pressure generates electric fields and piezoelectric potential by leading to polarization of barium titanate particles in charge/discharge process. We can expect the improved electron conductivity by facilitating electron transfer through forming composites with carbon. We used hydrothermal reaction and high temperature structure rearrangement process at the nitrogen atmosphere to enhanced electrochemical performance (increment of long term cycle stability). |
