pH-Sensitive Hydrogel of carboxymethyl-β-Cyclodextrin incorporating Hydrophobically modified chitosan |

pH-sensitive hydrogels composed of carboxymethyl-β-Cyclodextrin(CM-β-CD) and Hydrophobically modified chitosan(HM chitosan) were prepared by substituting the hydroxyl groups of β-CD with carboxymethyl group and incorporating HM chitosan into CM-β-CD hydrogels. Epichlorohydrin (EPI) was used as a cross-linker and the molar ratio of EPI/ βCD was 15/1, 10/1 and 8/1. The number of carboxymethyl group per β-CD residue was determined by a titration method. The incorporation of the HM chitosan was qualitatively conformed by FT-IR spectroscopy and SEM. The swelling ratio and % release were higher in the acidic and alkali condition than neutral condition due to the electrostatic repulsion. |
