Self-assembly of block copolymers into complex periodic nano structures in solution has attracted considerable recent attention because this simple method could provide ordered structures in a wide range of morphologies, including spheres, cylinders, biscontinuous structures, lamellae, vesicles, and many other complex or hierarchical assemblies. These aggregates provide potential or practical applications in separation and nanotemplating. We report the self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers having precisely defined bulky dendritic blocks into colloidal particles having highly defined internal bicontinuous cubic structures (polymer cubosomes) in aqueous solution. Here, in a nontraditional way, we synthesized block copolymers constructed on a dendritic block having fixed molecular weight but different number of hydrophobic PS chains to elucidate the effect of the molecular architecture on the self-assembled structures. |
