Functional thermoplastic polyurethane (FTPU) is a promising class of material for biomedical applications because of its potentially low toxicity and high biocompatibility. In this study, the preparation of polyethylene glycol (PEG) functionalized polyol is attempted through a thiol-ene reaction of thiol-terminated PEG (SH-PEG) with vegetable oil. SH-PEG is separately prepared through a Michael addition reaction between ethanedithiol and PEG methacrylate. FTPUs are prepared from the PEG functionalized polyols in the presence of certain amount of commercially available polytetramethylene glycol. The functionalized polyols and FTPUs are characterized by 1H-NMR, GPC, MALDI-TOF and titration methods to determine their structures and functionalities. |
