Polyurethane (PU) foam has rapidly grown to one of the most valuable industrial materials. Polyurethane foam has characteristics of low density, outstanding energy absorbing performance and high dimensional stability which can be made to satisfy a wide-range of applications. Recently, PU foam based on biomaterials has been researched as to replace with traditional petroleum based polyol. Polyols were synthesized from castor oil (CO) and polycaprolactone (PCL). In addition, the effects of nanocellulose on properties of castor oil-based polyurethane foam were investigated. The physical and thermal properties were studied using tensile test, compressive test and thermo-gravimetric analysis. The foamed structure was examined using scanning electron microscopy to determine cell density, porosity and shape. The properties of nanocellulose polyurethane foam were compared with prepared castor oil polyurethane foam. |
