제목 Characteristics of polyurethanes prepared from reactions of phenolic hydroxyl groups in polyol and 4,4-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate
초록 Polyurethane (PU) elastomers were prepared from an aromatic diol (molecular weight: 1680g/mol) with phenolic end groups and 4,4-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and thermal properties of the PU were investigated. It is well known that phenolic hydroxyl groups can be used to block the NCO group of isocyanates and deblocking occur by increasing the temperatures above 150℃. It was speculated that the splitting of aromatic diol in PU elastomer by heating will generate active NCO groups while the viscosity of the system is lowered due to the decrease of molecular weight by the splitting reaction. The low viscosity of PU elastomers in melts is desirable for hot melt adhesives. In this study, temperature dependent generation of NCO groups in PU elastomers prepared from aromatic diol was studied employing FT-IR. Temperature dependent rheological properties were also investigated to confirm the effects of molecular weight change by the splitting of NCO groups.
