Fabrication of Multi-compartmental Hydrogel Microparticles Consist of PEG Hydrogel and PCL Nanofiber |

The compartmentalized hydrogel microparticles have got attention in many areas of biomedical research. Compartmentalized particles have been predominantly fabricated by microfluidic or electrohydrodynamic jetting processes which require complex system. Here, well defined micro-scale architecture composed of electrospun PCL nanofibers and photopatterned PEG polymer hydrogel was fabricated by simple method. The shapes of the hydrogel microparticles, the chemical properties and size of each compartment were independently controlles by photomasck shape, components in fiber matrix, and electrospinning time. Concept experiments were done including sequential growth factor release and antibody binding assay. Independent release of two growth factors was obtained utilizing nanofibers with different degradation time. Anti-IgG and anti-IgM were bound to IgG and IgM attached on nanofiber region inside hydrogel demonstrated by fluorescence. |
