Comparison of graphene-stimulated skeletal muscle regeneration on RGD peptide-enriched PLGA nanofibers with collagen-enriched equivalents |

Graphene is a two-dimensional nanomaterial, and has attracted particular attention in recent years. In particular, the derivatives of graphene, including graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), have been found to possess stimulating effects on cell behaviors. Herein, we fabricated two types of electrospun poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanofiber matrices enriched with RGD peptide (PLGA/RGD) and collagen (PLGA/collagen), respectively. Additionally, GO was functionalized into both matrices for investigating the potential effects of GO on C2C12 skeletal myoblasts. Our results showed that both GO-PLGA/RGD and GO-PLGA/collagen matrices have suitable physicochemical properties and biocompatibility. Moreover, the myogenic differentiation of skeletal myoblasts was effectively accelerated on the GO-incorporated matrices. In conclusion, both GO-PLGA/collagen and GO-PLGA/RGD matrices can be a promising strategy for stimulating skeletal muscle regeneration. |
