Polyelectrolyte Complex Hydrogel composed of Chitosan and γ-PGA : swelling behavior and drug diffusion study |

PEC(polyelectrolyte complex) hydrogel system composed of chitosan and γ-PGA was introduced for controlled drug delivery. PEC hydrogel was prepared by freeze drying method. Swelling behavior and drug diffusion of PEC hydrogel by using BSA was investigated by changing the weight ratios(γ-PGA/chitosan), bath pH and bath ion concentration. Swelling ratios of PEC hydrogels were decreased with increasing weight ratios from 0.2 to 1.0 and increased with increasing of bath ion concentration. Also, PEC hydrogels swelled at low and high pH and this swelling ratios were reversible responding to the bath pH. Drug permeation rates of PEC hydrogels were affected by swelling ratios. As swelling ratios were increased, drug permeation rates were increased. By these results, it was considered that drug release on the PEC hydrogel can be controlled by changing the weight ratios, bath pH and bath ion concentration. |
