Folate receptor-targeted Quantum Dots for Cancer Detection and Imaging |

Folic acid (FA) has been utilized for tumor targeting of anticancer drugs via folate receptor (FR)-mediated endocytosis. FR is known to be abundantly expressed in a large fraction of human tumors, but only minimally distributed in normal tissues. Therefore, the FR serves as an excellent tumor marker as well as a functional tumor-specific receptor. Here we propose a novel targeted imaging agent for the detection of tumor by using folic acid-quantum dots. The conjugated quantum dots have water soluble and biocompatible properties. The selective targeting effect of the conjugate was determined by evaluating in vitro cell viability and fluorescent imaging. |
