Development and Evaluation of a Nanofibrous Membrane Modified with a Osteoinductive Peptide for Guided Bone Regeneration |

Bone tissue has a relatively high regeneration potential compared to other types of tissues, however, it is often compromised by gender, age, and severity of bone defects. Guided bone regeneration(GBR) is one of the ways to address these limitations to facilitate bone in-growth into the void region by minimizing fibrous tissue infiltration often using membranes. In this study, we developed a membrane functionalized with bioactive molecules to improve bone healing. We prepared electospun PLGA nanofibers, on which a BMP7 derived peptide was then simply immobilized inspired by polydopamine chemistry. The results showed that the functionalized nanofibers enhanced in vitro osteogenic differentiation of hMSC and in vivo bone regeneration in mouse cranial defect models, suggesting that our approach could be proming and used in clinical applications. |
