Dual Curing of Cationic UV-curable Clear Coating Systems Using Thioxanthone and Anthracene as Photosensitizers |

We investigated the effect of photosensitizers (2,4-diethylthioxanthone and anthracene) on the kinetic and physical properties of cationic clear photocurable coatings based on the cycloaliphatic epoxide (CAE)/ε-caprolactone polyol. Cationic photopolymerizations were investigated by differential photocalorimetry (photo-DSC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Photo-DSC exotherm results showed that the DETX-S photosensitizer exhibited a higher increase in the polymerization reactivity than anthracene. Depth profile analyses using FTIR-ATR spectroscopy for dual curing effect showed that all the films exhibited significantly improved surface cross-linked density and more thorough curing for film thicknesses up to 100㎛.
