Cross-Linkable Polymers Containing Poly(ethylene glycol) and Cardanol Moieties for Solid Polymer Electrolyte in Lithium Ion Battery Applications |

A series of copolymers (PHP) comprising of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) and 2-hydroxy-3-cardanylpropyl methacrylate (HCPM) were prepared via free radical polymerization for applications to solid polymer electrolytes (SPE) in lithium secondary batteries. HCPM was synthesized from the reaction between cardanol and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). Dimensionally-stable free-standing SPE films were obtained mixing PHP, lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI), and 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1-propanone (HMPP) as a photoinitiator followed by UV curing. As the content of HCPM moieties decreased, the ionic conductivity of the electrolyte increased due to higher lithium salt concentration and enhanced chain mobility. The maximum ionic conductivity value of the PHP containing 8 mol % of HCPM was 2.6 X 10-5 S/cm at 30 °C and 2.5 X 10-4 S/cm at 60 °C. |
