Synthesis and Application of Cross-Linkable Polymers Containing Poly(ethylene glycol) and Cardanol Moieties for Solid Polymer Electrolytes in High-Temperature Lithium Batteries |

A series of random copolymers (PHP) comprising of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) and 2-hydroxy-3-cardanylpropyl methacrylate (HCPM) were synthesized via free radical polymerization and characterized. Dimensionally-stable free-standing SPE films were prepared by blending PHP, lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI), and 2-hydroxy-2-methyl-1-phenyl-1-propanone (HMPP) as a photoinitiator followed by UV curing. As the content of HCPM repeating units in the PHP copolymer decreased, the ionic conductivity of the electrolyte increased due to higher lithium salt concentration and enhanced chain mobility. The maximum ionic conductivity value of the electroyte with PHP containing 8 mol % of HCPM was 2.6 X 10-5 S/cm at 30 °C and 2.5 X 10-4 S/cm at 60 °C. The feasibility of the solid polymer electrolyte for lithium batteries were investigated by linear sweep voltammetry and galvanostatic charge-discharge cell test. |
