The development of hydrogen economy is critical for sustainable human life. Among hydrogen storage materials, ammonia has attracted much attention for an ideal source for COx-free hydrogen production. In this work, we studied the effect of Ru precursors on Ru/CeO2 catalysts for NH3 decomposition. The catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method using Ru precursors including RuCl3 and Ru(NO)(NO3)3. The catalytic activities were tested at 300-500 °C under GHSV of 6,000 mL·g-1·h-1 and physico-chemical properties were characterized with CO chemisorption, XRD, XPS, ICP-OES, TEM, TPR and TPD analysis. The catalyst prepared from RuCl3 precursor showed the lowest catalytic activity, whereas those from other Ru precursors were similar. The results inferred the negative effect of Cl- ion on catalytic activity. In addition, the effect of Cl- ion was further elucidated by the RuCl3/CeO2 catalysts prepared by two different synthetic methods, wet impregnation and deposition-precipitation. |
