Tissue Regeneration using hyaluronic acid based hydrogel |

Development and application of scaffolds for tissue regeneration is one of the challenging issues in tissue engineering. The limitations of the conventional cell based therapy such as low cell engraftment rate and delivery efficiency can be overcome using scaffolds. Hyaluronic acid was derivatized by acrylation and Hyaluronic acid based hydrogel was prepared by Michael type addition reaction. Cell culture experiments shows that cellular viability is dependent on the composition of hydrogel. This hydrogel is applied for regeneration of two main tissues; bone and heart. We found that regeneration activity of hydrogel was different depending on tissue types. Heart muscles are regenerated by hydrogel only whereas bone regeneration requires additional agents such as stem cells. From these results, we have found that tissue specific composition of hydrogel is required for optimal regeneration. |
