The dye sensitized solar cell (DSC) based on mesoporous nanocrystalline TiO2 films has attracted significant attention as a low-cost photovoltaic device. Since the sensitizers used in DSSCs are critical to the cells photovoltaic performance, extensive efforts have been focused on the synthesis of new, highly efficient sensitizers. Among the numerous sensitizers developed for this purpose, ruthenium(II) polypyridine complexes have received much attention owing to their superior performance in DSSCs. we have successfully introduced 3,4 dihexyl thiophene group in to bipyridine ligand. This modified ligand along with 4,4’-dicarboxy-2,2’-dipyridyl ligand were effectively subjected for the synthesis of two heteroleptic ruthenium(II) sensitizers. The synthesized sensitizers are applied to fabricate the DSCs and photovoltaic performances were investigated. |
