The micelles generated via self-assembly of block copolymer in a selective solvent form various structures. Recently, Huang et al. reported the unusual and highly uniform donut-shape micelle from polyisoprene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine).1 To investigate the factor for changing the size or thickness of the donut-shape micelle, we synthesized PI-b-P2VP series by anionic polymerization which have same total molecular weight but different block composition and measured the micelle size. The nature of these structures was elucidated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) for visualized image and dynamic light scattering (DLS) for hydrodynamic radius in solution state. Generally, morphological changes are expected with different block compositions of diblock copolymer. In this study, however, we observed the same size of PI-b-P2VP donut-shape micelle which has different thickness of the donuts. 1) H. Huang, Angew. Chem. Int.. Ed. 2009, 48(25), 4594-4597 |
