Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomenon of metal nanoparticles, such as Cu, Au, and, Cu-Au alloy, inside bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells (PSCs) and polymeric light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) are studied through a thin polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P2VP) block copolymer template. In the PSCs, an improved optical absorption is observed attributed to the increased electric field in the photoactive layer by excited localized surface plasmons from the metal nanoparticles. Moreover, enhanced emission intensity as well as luminous efficiency in PLEDs are achieved due to the acceleration of the radiative processes at the surface plasmon frequency. The significant effect of SPR is attained in the organic optoelectronic devices, which show up to 20% enhanced performance as compared with the reference devices. |
