ATRP mediated by high oxidation state metal without any additive were compared by polymerizing MMA( methyl methacrylate)with ATRP, reverse ATRP and AGET ATRP using copper salts (CuBr, CuBr2) and different nitrogen containing ligands HMTETA (1,1,4,7,10,10,hexamethyltriethylenetetraamine), TMEDA (N,N,N',N', Tetramethyl diethylenediamine) with EBriB as initiator in two different polar as well as non polar solvent at 800C. In our study, we found that ATRP using high oxidation state was found better controlled (PDI~ 1.2) compared with other ATRP methods. Among all ATRP methods reverse ATRP was found worst followed by AGET ATRP and ATRP respectively. We also compared systems using monomer and solvent without distillation and limited amount of oxygen for the polymerization. Monomer was used after passing through the alumina column to remove the inhibitor. In all the cases ATRP using high oxidation state was fond well controlled in terms of catalytic activity and controllability. (PDI~ 1.3). |
