Characteristics of Nano-structured Silica Hybrids derived from UV Curable Resin System |

In this study, the uv curable urethane-acrylate resin system was incorporated with inorganic silica component to prepare hybrid nano coating materials with enhanced abrasion resistance using sol-gel process. The uv- curable resin systemwasprepared by mixingEBECRYL1290(Aliphatic Urethane Hexaacrylate), EPHA(Acrylated dipentaerythritol), TMPTA(Trimethylolpropane Triacrylate), and HDODA(1,6-HExanediol Diacrylate).The TEOS(Tetraethyl orthosilicate) as an inorganic precursor was modified with silane coupling agent MPTMS(3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate) to improve the interfacial attraction between organic and inorganic phase. The phase compatibility of the hybrid was evaluated by analysing the FT-IT spectra, phase morphology, and optical property. The silica particles with nano-scale was observed to be dispersed uniformly in the matrix, resulting in stable homogeneous microstructure. It was confirmedthat there existed an optimum range ofcontent forthe silica component andsilane coupling agent(MPTMS) to produce hybridnano coating materials with high anti-abrasive property.
