Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been widely investigated because of their unique properties such as catalytic, electronic, optoelectronic, electrochemical, and electromechanical properties. Recently, we found reversible formation-dissolution of AuNPs through turning on and off sequences of UV Light in the presence of amphiphilic comb-like polymers (poly[oxy[[decyltri(oxyethylene)]thiomethyl]ethylene], D3OTP). Mono-dispersed AuNPs were fabricated by UV irradiation from a mixture of D3OTP and a gold salt (LiAuCl4) in tetrahydrofuran. The prepared gold nanoparticles dissolved to yield gold ions (Au3+) when the UV light was switched off. Such formation and dissolution could be repeated persistently by turning the UV light on and off repeatedly. |
