Effects of Surfactants on the Nanostructures inside Block Copolymer/Homopolymer Blend Particles |

Fabrication and manipulation of structured colloids are very promising research area of soft matter science. As a simple route for fabrication of structured polymeric microspheres, the blend solution of symmetrical poly(styrene)-block-poly(butadiene) diblock copolymer (PS-b-PB) and poly(styrene) homopolymers (hPS) in toluene was emulsified in the aqueous surfactant solution and few hours of drying and annealing was conducted. It is reported that the internal structures of such structured colloids fabricated by the emulsion based method depend on the ratio (r) of the molecular weight of hPS relative to that of the PS block of PS-b-PB, the ratio of the diameter of the emulsion drop (D) to the feature spacing (L0) of the phase-separated periodic domains, the weight fraction of hPS (Φ) and the kind of surfactant. In this presentation, the effects of surfactants on the internal structures of copolymer/homopolymer blend particles will be discussed. |
