Over the past few decades, researchers have fund for separating water from the sea water. In industry, there are two biggest separation methods are distillation and reverse osmosis. Both two methods are not energy-efficient because they were needed huge amount of energies. Our research is focused on relatively row energy needed water purification. We attached thermally sensitive poly (N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM) hydrogel and forward osmosis membrane. The composite membrane was collected pure water from temperature cycle. PNIPAM hydrogel can be swollen at low temperature (<32 ℃) and be de-swollen at high temperature (>32 ℃). Repeating low and high temperature, we can get pure water from the sea water. Our method will be open up a new possibility in forward osmosis area. |
