제목 Failure mechanism and prediction of long-term life time for polyethylene pipe
초록 The failure mechanism and the morphology of polyethylene (PE) pipe were investigated. Microscopy observations using video microscope and scanning electron microscope indicate that the failure mode is a brittle fracture including cracks propagated from inner wall to outer wall. Oxidation induction time (OIT) and fourier transform spectroscopy (FT-IR) results show the presence of exothermic peak and the increase in carbonyl index on surface of fractured PE pipe, due to thermal-degradation. An accelerated life test methodology of PE pipe is developed using the relationship between stresses and life characteristics. A testing system for accelerated life is also developed. Consequently, the long-term life time of PE pipe is predicted and is analyzed.
