TThis study examines the thermal degradation behavior of γ-ray irradiated epoxy resin. A sample was created by mixing DGEBA type epoxy resin and a Jeffamine amine system hardener at a ratio of 2.3 : 1 (216 g : 93.9 g) for about thirty minutes. The created sample was irradiated by γ-ray of 500 kGy, 1000 kGy, and 2000 kGy at a dose rate of 8 kGy/hr. The kinetic thermal decomposition properties and activation energy were measured using a TGA and DSC experiments, based on the ASTM E 1641 and ASTM E 698 standards. According to the test results, the 5% weight loss temperature and activation energy of the samples decreased as the irradiation dose increased in the TGA experiment. In the DSC experiment, as the irradiation dose increased, the Tg, Tp, and activation energy also decreased. |
