Although Polyurethanes have advantages such as high strength, flexibility, abrasion resistance, they reveal disadvantages such as poor themal stability and barrier property. One method to overcome these disadvantages is Polyurethane/clay nanocomposites. Pristine montmorillonite from Southern clay product was treated with organifier synthesized with urethane-based anime. Organoclay was dispersed and sonicated in PTMG 1K which was one of the reactant. And then, PTMG/clay suspension reacted with two kinds of isocyanates until reaching theoretical isocyanate percent. Two isocyanates are MDI and IPDI. MDI and IPDI have different properties in terms of reactivity and molecular structure. Although organoclay used to make polyurethane/clay nanocomposites is the same, their properties are significantly different due to isocyanate. We compared the properties of pristine urethane with those of polyurethane/clay nanocomposites as well as the properies of the two polyurethane/clay nanocomposites. |
