The encapsulation of as-synthesized QDs within amphiphilic block copolymer micelles is one of the strategies for stabilization and functionalization of QDs with high photostability in aqueous media. This could be achieved by the careful consideration of solubility parameter differences among core and corona blocks of BCMs, QD surface ligands, and a selective solvent, which are all related to the interaction parameter, χ. In addition to the control on the location of QDs, the amount of QDs in the core region can be varied by changing the initial QD concentration as well as by controlling the solubility parameter differences among core blocks, QD surface ligands, and a selective solvent. By the encapsulation of as-synthesized QDs with high QY within the hydrophobic core regions of BCMs, those QDs show much higher photostability than the stability of as-synthesized QDs in aqueous solution. |
