Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) have emerged as useful and alternative materials for labeling biomolecules because of their unique optical advantages including photostability, narrow emission bands, broad excitation spectra, and accessibility to versatile functionalization. The versatile functionalization of QDs with a range of molecules including cell penetrating peptide, 6xhistidine, PEG, Ni-nitrillotriacetate (NTA) and antibodies will be presented. The studies on the biological application using QDs for the visualization of the proteins of interest and the multimodal clinical imaging, in particular, in conjunction with nuclear medicine and radiology will be discussed. |
